Brigadier General James C. Bobick, CAP
Brigadier General James C. Bobick is the National Commander of Civil Air Patrol. His primary duty is to lead Civil Air Patrol in fulfillment of its three mission elements - Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education and Emergency Services. As such, he directs the activities of 8 regions, 52 wings and 9 overseas squadrons. As national commander, he serves on CAP's National Board, the governing body of Civil Air Patrol, as well as the National Executive Committee, which governs the affairs of the organization when the National Board is not in session. The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer, nonprofit membership organization which serves local communities across America. It is also, by law, the auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. General Bobick's CAP career started when he joined the National Capital Wing as a cadet in 1953. He was an International Air Cadet Exchange cadet to England in 1957. General Bobick has held several CAP staff positions and conducted a wide variety of diverse CAP activities. He has served as a squadron commander, deputy group commander, the Colorado Wing Commander, Rocky Mountain Region Commander, national chief of staff and was national vice commander prior to his appointment as national commander on 6 March 1998, at CAP's winter national board meeting. While pursuing an Air Force career, General Bobick remained active with Civil Air Patrol and has held membership in the Colorado, Alaska, Kansas, California, Texas, Georgia and National Capital wings. His military and CAP experience spans more than 40 years. General Bobick is also an Air Force Colonel who retired after nearly 27 years of active duty. His Air Force assignments included positions as Commander, 3400 Technical Training Wing, Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado; Commander of Elmendorf Air Force Base and Shemya Air Force Base, Alaska; and Deputy Director of Air National Guard Programs, as well as Program Manager, U.S. Air Force Programs Directorate, both in the Pentagon. He also served as a U.S. Air Force Exchange Officer to the Royal Australian Air Force. He is a rated master navigator with almost 5,000 hours, primarily in tactical airlift aircraft. General Bobick is a real estate broker and active in local community affairs. He is a United Methodist Certified Lay Speaker, the Lay Leader for the Mile-High Sub-District United Methodist Church, and serves as a delegate to the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Annual Conference. General Bobick is past president of the Aurora Association of REALTORS, a past director of the Colorado Association of REALTORS, and a director of Metrolist, Inc. He also maintains other business, civic and religious affiliations. |
