The latest
performance by the Renaissance HS JROTC Drill Teams took place at the
Michigan-wide Drill Competition sponsored by the Detroit Department of Military
Science. This competition ran from 7-10 December 1999 at the Light Guard
Armory in Detroit. The Individual Drill Competition was held on 15
December. There were 32 schools that entered teams and the competition was
fierce. The most impressive aspect of the competition was the degree of
focus displayed by all the competitors.
The Detroit Department of
Military Science planned and executed a superb event. They even
coordinated the transportation for all local teams which helped to minimize
cadet loss of academic time. Mumford HS provided the rifles in support of
the event, greatly simplifying logistics for all. The evaluators were
graciously provided by the Mount Clemens Recruiting Company under the command of
CPT Mc Intyre.
As it turns out after careful
review of tapes and scoresheets, the overall winner of the Michigan-wide Drill
Competition was Northwestern with 989.6 points out of a possible 1030. Our
hats are off to their fine performance. Coming in second place with 983.8
points was Southwestern. Renaissance came in third place with 982.6
points. The competition was very close as evidenced by the mere 7.2 points
out of 1030 that separated 1st and 3d. Again, congratulations to
Northwestern and Southwestern. For a little more detail on the various
competition results...read on.
